One of the most overlooked accessories to any patio is a fireplace. There is an outdoor fireplace for every patio. The one above was built as a focal point completing the stone flooring of the patio and the short stone wall that can also double as a seating area.
Of course, not all patios are as large enough or designed to have a stone fireplace as the finishing touch. However, every patio can have a fireplace of some shape or size. While the fireplace above is a permanent structure, other fireplaces can be purchased from a retail store and used when necessary.
The round iron fire pit can double as a charcoal grill. Note the cut out decorations that allow heat to escape through the sides.
Many of the retail patio fireplaces are built of metal with a wide basin for containing the fire. These are particularly popular for those who have a square patio with surrounding furniture. Often during the early spring months the fireplace can serve as a center piece rather than a large dining table. As the summer approaches the fireplace can be removed and a table can replace it.
The round cast iron fireplace is on legs and has a lid or top to prevent the heat from drifting straight upward.
Another smaller outdoor fireplace comes with a top forcing all the heat from the sides rather than allowing the heat to drift upward.
