There are many different types of lighting you can use outdoors to light up the night and provide interest to your outdoor space, but none are quite as festive and fun as a set of patio string lights. Why are these lights such an upbeat addition to your patio space? For one, a set of lights strung around an area seems to evoke a party-like atmosphere, in a similar way that Christmas lights add a bit of festivity to your home during the holiday season. Another reason why these lights can make such a big impact on the look of your space is that there are so many fun theme-like styles to choose from.
String lights are basically just a set of small lights that are connected to each other by a cord, or “string” that is then plugged in if they are electric, or that have some type of solar panel if they are powered by the sun. The types of lights that are included along the string can be elegant and upscale, as in a set of small glass colored lanterns or balls. They can also evoke a certain type of theme, such as lights that have a tropical feel. Or they can be used specifically for a party or have a particular theme, such as a set of plastic palm tree shaped lights, or a set of red and green resin chili pepper lights for a Mexican fiesta. You can even simply string up a set of plain clear or colored lights to add a festive atmosphere to your patio space, even if there is no party going on.
In addition to lights that you can string around your patio, you can also buy patio umbrella lights, and these can be hung from the edges of your outdoor umbrella to provide the same fun and party-like feel as a set of lights that are strung around your whole patio can do. Many of these lights are simply clear or colored small bulbs, but you can also use other small theme shaped lights to dangle along the edges of your umbrella – and these can really get the party started!
