Teak Patio Furniture

Teak patio furniture is among the most durable outdoor furniture made from natural materials. Teak is native to Asia with most of today’s teak coming from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). As such a hard wood that will withstand the elements, teak has become a favorite material for outdoor furniture.

As a yellowish brown wood, teak also has a great texture and good grain lines making it easy to stain in a variety of shades for outdoor use. In fact, boats and boat decks which are constantly in or near the water are often made of teak, since it does not rot even where joined with metal screws or bolts. Teak is waterproof. For that reason alone, teak patio furniture can be considered an investment.

With all the benefits of teak wood, it must be noted that in comparison to other wood outdoor furniture, teak patio sets or garden furniture is not cheap. Some pieces can be found at reasonable prices. However, when buying teak outdoor furniture selecting a substantial set should not be ruled out, even if the price is slightly higher than other sets. Teak is strong and durable. It will last a lifetime. Invest in quality.

When selecting teak patio furniture, one should consider selecting a style that will stand the test of time rather than the latest fad style. Teak furniture, even left outdoors year round, can be expected to serve well for 50 years or longer. Again, this is an investment. Since most of us do not wish to purchase our patio or garden furniture each year — that could be costly — wisely selecting teak as the material for one’s outdoor furniture can actually prove to be quite cost effective.
